Kids Advent Calendar: Day 21

This is the 21st day in my new kids advent calendar, An Experiment to RememberWe're using Christmas science activities to teach about Jesus!

Kids Advent Calendar

Lesson 21: Let Jesus Save You

Supplies
* mason jar or water bottle
* water
* food coloring
* oil
* liquid dish soap
* optional: straw for stirring

Step by Step Experiment:

1- Fill your jar about 1/3 full of water (with food coloring) and 1/3 full of oil. See how they separate naturally.

2- Stir them together and watch them separate again.

3- Add a big squirt of dishsoap and stir all together again. Watch the oil and water stay mixed!

The Life of Jesus:

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved."  -John 3:16-17

We can only be saved through Jesus. He is like the soap that binds us to God.

How do YOU turn to Jesus?

Science Explanation:

Oil and water do not mix because water molecules' shape gives them a slight charge, adn the slightly charged water molecules are more attracted to each other than to the oil molecules (which are not charged). Soap can bind to BOTH the charged, polar water molecules and the non-polar oil molecules, bringing the two different molecules close to each other.

This is the lesson for Day 21 (of 25) in An Experiment to Remember, a kids advent calendar that uses science object lessons to discuss the life and teachings of Jesus.
