Chemistry Class - Atoms & Molecules Unit Project - Homeschool Science

The final (10th) lesson in my homeschool science Chemistry Class may take your kiddos more than one day to finish: it is a project that they choose to showcase one element! Click HERE to see all the other lessons too!

Your children will choose one element to study in more depth and what kind of project they would like to create to share what they have learned. In the instruction sheet, I suggest a pamphlet, a wanted ad, an obituary, or a newspaper article, but if you and your child want to do a different format that is entirely okay!

Doing this project will reinforce the most basic information we have covered this unit:

* What is an atom?

* What is a molecule?
* What are the 3 largest subatomic particles?
* What does the periodic table tell us about the subatomic particles?

This project gives your child a chance to learn more about one particular element, including some of its history and common uses, while practicing creative communication and writing skills!

Supplies:

* The Atoms & Molecules Unit Project Packet
Get the Unit Project Packet HERE!
* A computer, tablet, or library for research
* Materials to create the final project (most kiddos just use a computer and print it, but you could make it scrapbook-style by hand)

Goals:

To review the basic information covered in this lesson while practicing research and communication skills.

Lesson:

Print the packet, and read through the instruction pages with your children. Let them get to work! Be available to help guide them in their research, but be prepared to answer many questions with, "What do you think?" or "How could you figure that out?"

This project could take several hours, so be prepared to give your child more than one day if necessary.

Review/Final Discussion:

This project serves as a unit review and evaluation. You can save the project in a portfolio or a work sample.
